Ian founded Thompson in 1984 as graphic design practice but quickly developed the company into a corporate identity consultancy and then the full-service branding company it is now.
In recent years, Ian has worked on rebrands for Thomas Cook, The National Railway Museum, Leeds Building Society, Confused.com and Morrisons. He also played a role in the 2012 London Olympic bid, developing the proposition for the Culture and Education section and working on the brand throughout the lead-up to the games.
Ian sits on the board of Metal, a national arts company headed up by Artistic Director Jude Kelly. He is still an active designer and a campaigner for the power of design in industry and commerce. He is also a huge fan of Northern Soul and recently made his first documentary film about male dancing and his experiences on the Northern Soul scene.
Ian met Victoria in 2013 whilst rebranding Keelham through the Design Council’s Designing Demand Programme. They have become firm friends and Ian has continually worked alongside Victoria to develop the brand and shape the customer experience for the landmark shop in Skipton.
